    Cuenca’s Historic Center, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, encompasses a central area of 224.14 hectares. Notable tourist features include its 19th-century houses and churches, as well as museums, markets, parks, plazas, and the Barranco area along the Tomebamba River.

El Barranco

    The Barranco of Cuenca is the natural corridor of the Tomebamba River, which defines the southern boundary of the city’s Historic Center. It is characterized by its landscapes, architecture, history, and culture. In 2001, the Municipal Council declared it an emblematic and priority area of the city.

Puente Roto

    This grand architectural structure was built between 1840 and 1850. At that time, it connected the Historic Cuenca with the lower part of the city. It is the oldest bridge and was inaugurated with a new structure in 1961, after almost half of the bridge was lost in 1950 due to a major river flood.

Mirador de Turi

  The name comes from the indigenous word “kuri,” meaning gold. Mount Turi, founded in 1853, was historically a place of worship for the gods according to Inca tradition. It offers a panoramic and unique view that allows you to see the city in all its splendor and is known as “The Balcony of Cuenca.”

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

    Also known as the Cuenca Cathedral or the New Cathedral, it is a Catholic church in Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Construction began in 1885 and was completed approximately 100 years later.

Pumapungo

  The Pumapungo Museum, Theater, and Ancestral Park was established at the end of the 15th century. Inside were the Temple of the Sun and the convent of the Virgins of the Sun, which were part of one of the most imposing and beautiful cities of the ancient Inca Empire. The ruins are the largest collection of Inca archaeological remains south of Ingapirca.
